WordPress 2016; Navigate between the old and new post editors

You’ve probably noticed that the old editor invites you to switch to the “improved” editor, but the new editor doesn’t let you switch back.  There is a way back!  Just follow the “stepping stones” from whatever screen you’re on in this diagram:

Each editor has pros and cons.  Until WordPress perfects the new editor, you’ll probably want to use both of them.  Here are pros and cons that I’ve run into; I’m sure there are more of them.

Old editor pros:

  • Can set a custom URL for an image
  • Default; clicking image brings up full-size image

Old editor cons:

  • Kludgy interface
  • Can’t make a gallery of images

New editor pros:

  • Better interface
  • Can make a gallery of images

New editor cons:

  • Can’t set a custom URL for an image (I read of a downloadable tool that does this)
  • Default; clicking image does nothing
  • SAVE of a draft sometimes fails; then you have to publish a post to save it
